Got our laptop back up & running very quickly - a lifesaver as we have a teen trying to keep up with live online school lessons. And saved all our photos too! Lovely gentleman to deal with. We are very pleased with the service.

Thanks for the kind words and glad I could help.

Alan Howarth is a rare and precious amidst in a sea of computer repair pop ups! In an era where we have sadly lost so many trusted tradesmen - genuine service helpers, customer service and mature people with real experience under their belt; when I felt like anything outside a major retail chain was as risky as the old 'used car salesman' experience - Alan has renewed my faith again.

Alan is a quiet, genuine, mature and gentle-man offering real service, knowledgeable skill, customer care and flexibility. He is very adaptive and creative in his problem solving, with broad capabilities, a quiet confidence and has never yet been unable to save my day! He is very patient and kind with my ignorant and repeated questions (unlike many younger, speedy gonzales' who can make me feel very inadequate). Alan doesn't give up, leaving no stone unturned when working on a problem, with helpful suggestions and links if alternative routes are needed.

He is good at advising you honestly, putting your particular requirements/preferences uppermost, and speaking your language, whatever your tekkie level. Remote access is just THE BEST for when I can't get to Alan in person.

I can highly recommend this competent and trustworthy, independent computer expert for his excellent computer support and problem solving service.

We are elderly and totally computer illiterate. We have been using Alan for ten years or more to help us when we have a problem, or when our computer breaks down , or has a glitch that we don't understand. He always has the answer, comes promptly, and is very reasonable.

We have recommended Alan to many of our friends.

Customer Testimonials

Thanks for your excellent service today. We will be sure to remember your name for future reference. With Thanks.

We can confirm that Alan has been providing us with computer support over the last few years. We have always found the service to be good and reliable during that period.

Alan has been supporting our broadband network for several years and has always given us very good service. He is always quick to respond to any problems we have and has set us up with a disaster recovery solution in case the worst happens. He has also updated our web site and has even produced adverts for us, in other words if he can possibly help us he will. We feel a lot happier when we know he is just a email or phone call away.

Alan was recommended to us by a colleague and setup a broadband network for us. He is very friendly and always responds quickly to our calls for help. If he is not available he has other engineers who can step into the breach. His years of experience certainly show in his standard of workmanship and we can thoroughly recommend him to anyone.

I have had two occasions to call on Alan's aid for two very different reasons and in both cases my problems were resolved effectively and completely. Both problems were dealt with quickly and at very reasonable cost and in a friendly manner.

We have always had prompt and very satisfactory service from Alan for both my computer and my wife's. He has come quickly when there has been a problem and sorted it out for us. I would recommend him highly

During these testing times I still intend to keep fixing computers and yet safeguard my customers and myself. If you would prefer to bring your computer/laptop to me that is fine and I will disinfect it before giving it back to you. If you are nervous about plugging your computer back in I have done a guide and would be happy to talk you through it, it isn't as hard as it looks! Alternatively if your broadband is working and your computer turns on and goes into Windows I can login remotely and solve many problems that way.

I have been fixing computers for over 40 years (it doesn't seem possible) and I am still fairly sane! I have worked for various computer companies but in September 1994 I started out on my own, and I haven't looked back since (as they say). I have concentrated on PC's over the last few years and have built up a lot of experience in fixing computers, networks and broadband problems. One of my main clients was a company called Excess Baggage which, unsurprisingly, handle excess baggage and left luggage at all terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick airports and at most of the London stations, and ship goods all over the world.

Broadband is the quickest way to connect either one, or several, PCs to the Internet and email. There are three ways of getting broadband depending on your requirements. Through a cable operator such as Virgin, though a phone line through companies such as BT, Talk Talk or Plusnet or through a 3G dongle. You can only get cable if it has been laid in your area and you can check on the company's website if it has or not. Cable (or fibre) is by far the best method if you can get it. It is much faster - 10 mbits to 200 mbits - and you can get the full advertised speed unlike phone line connections.

We are always hearing about Viruses and Spyware in the press nowadays but how much of a risk are they? Things have changed a lot in the last couple of years. Recently viruses and spyware have become considerably more aggressive and if you use the internet or email without antivirus software the chances of not being infected are now very small. Viruses often get in through email attachments so never open emails from sources you don't know. Many joke emails are created just to get spyware onto your computer.

Considering that most people realise the importance of backups it is amazing how few people actually have an effective backup policy. Just imagine if you lost everything on your computer as of now! How would that affect your working day, or even your private day? They did a survey in the USA which discovered that 80% of companies that lost all of their data went bust within months! Still feeling comfortable? I think that most people shy away from doing backups because they aren't too sure of the safest way of doing them.
